Double degree programme

 

The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering of Delft University of Technology (TUD) and the department of Mechanical Engineering of Instituto Superior Técnico Lisbon (IST) offer a Double Degree master programme Flight Dynamics & Control and Avionics.

This Double Degree programme is an international profile programme of the Master track Control and Operations of Aerospace Vehicles.

Students who have successfully completed the full curriculum (132 ECTS) will receive 2 diplomas. The programme is completely taught in English.

Duration of programme

The programme takes 2 years of which one year will be followed at TU Delft, track Control and Operations profile international double degree and one year at IST Lisboa. You can start at either university.

For whom

  • Top class students with BSc degree in Aerospace Engineering.
  • Who are able to finish this programme (of 132 ECTS) in 2 years.
  • EU nationals from both institutions and from Pegasus-Universities (see www.pegasus-europe.org )

Admission

The double degree programme is open to BSc graduates in Aerospace Engineering of TUD, IST and Pegasus-Universities. Top class students from other universities might also be admitted. No deficiencies or late subjects are allowed. Acceptance to the Joint Master's programme may be conditional, such that some applicants may have to fulfil specific conditions (e.g. pass certain examinations at their home universities) before final acceptance.

Once accepted, all students will be automatically admitted to the two partner universities and enrolled at TUD and IST for the duration of the Joint Master's programme.

The registration deadline for applications is the 1st of April 2011.

Applications should be submitted to the university where the student wishes to start.

The following documents are required of all applicants:

  1. applicationIn TUDelft  is done online. (For more information you can refer to www.msc.tudelft.nl);
  2. certified copies of academic diplomas in the original language;
  3. certified translations of academic diplomas in English, Portuguese or Dutch;
  4. original or certified copies (incl. the diploma supplement or its equivalent) of the full list of grades in the original language;
  5. certified translations of the full list of grades in English, Portuguese or Dutch;
  6. A TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least 90 (internet-based test). Please note that we only accept the TOEFL internet-based test or IELTS (academic version) overall Band score of at least 6.5; or proof that you have passed the University of Cambridge 'Certificate of Proficiency in English' or the University of Cambridge 'Certificate in Advanced English'.
    As the whole process of collecting information, registering for the tests and receiving the test results may take several months, we advise you to register for the IELTS or TOEFL several months before starting your application.;
  7. photocopy of the applicant's passport showing the applicant's name and date and place of birth together with the passport's expiry date;
  8. certified copy of the applicant's birth certificate;
  9. two original reference letters - one from an official of the university from which the applicant obtained his/her diploma and one from the applicant’s employer or another appropriate person (e.g. the supervisor of the applicant’s Bachelor's thesis work);
  10. a 2000-3000 word essay written in English by the applicant that covers the following points:
    • a concise summary of courses taken during the applicant's Bachelor's studies, together with the grades obtained;
    • a short description of the applicant's Bachelor's thesis or final Bachelor's assignment(s);
    • a review of the applicant's most favoured subjects, explaining why they are favoured;
    • a review of the applicant's least favoured subjects, explaining why they are not favoured;
    • the applicant's motivation to complete a Master's programme in aerospace engineering;
    • the applicant's interest in the joint Master's programme;
    • examples of three research themes in aerospace engineering that appeal to the applicant, together with the reasons why they are interesting;

Certified copies of documents should bear original logos and original stamps of the offices that issued the original documents. Alternatively, certified translations should bear original logos and stamps of the sworn translators who did the translations. Forms and letters of reference should also bear original signatures.

 

For TUD students and  IST students in the Master in Aerospace Engineering:

  1. application inTUDelft is done online. (For more information you can refer to www.msc.tudelft.nl);
  2. full list of grades in the original language;
  3. photocopy of the applicant's identity card or passport;
  4. A TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least 90 (internet-based test).
