In the last ice age, England was connected to mainland Europe by an area known as ‘Doggerland’. At the time it was a rich fishing and hunting ground, as documented by many human and animal remains recovered from what is now the bottom of the sea.
These archeological findings allow us to date the sea-level changes upon melting of the great ice sheets in Scandinavia and Great Britain. Using geophysical models developed at TU Delft we can improve our knowledge of past climate changes and the contribution to current sea-level change due to the melting of past ice sheets.
