Study of Surveying at the Fachhochschule Mainz (1976-1979); Diploma degree in Surveying 1979; Study of Geodesy at the University of Karlsruhe (1979-1983); Diploma degree in Geodesy 1983; Military service (1983-1984); Referendariat (1984-1986); Assessor des Vermessungswesens 1986; PhD research (1986-1991); degree of a Dr.-Ing. in 1991 on “Boundary element methods for the fixed gravimetric boundary value problem”; Senior Researcher, University of Karlsruhe (1991-1993); Habilitation in Geodesy, University of Karlsruhe 1993;  Head of the Department System Theory and Modeling (GFZ Potsdam) (1993-1994); since 1994 Professor in Physical Geodesy, Delft University of Technology; Head of the Physical, Geometric and Space Geodesy group, Delft University of Technology (1994-2003); since 2003 Head of the Physical and Space Geodesy group, Delft University of Technology. 1997-2006 Director of the Delft Interfaculty Research Centre „Determination and Prediction of the 3D-Movements of the Earth Surface”.
