Research at DPCS

Our philosophy of "pro-active or forward integration of design parameters" is the leading theme for our research. We also encourage support from other disciplinary groups, which have substantial specific knowledge to offer necessary for realising of our objectives.

Our core research revolves around five areas distinct, but correlated themes. Click on any of the links below to find out more about the research topics.

Within the research area "green composites" we are looking to develop materials and structures that are recyclable and environmentally friendly while being economically viable.

In the vast majority of cases, the realism of material use reduces to matters of cost. We are developing ways to produce high performance composites at an affordable price.

By applying our integrated composite design approach, novel materials and processes, we create new designs of composite structures, such as multi-bubble pressure vessels and monolithic thermoplastic composite rotor blades

Processing of materials has an importance from the microscopic-level to the structural-level. We develop novel processing techniques and investigate the fundamental aspects of existing or novel processes.

Material constraints can limit the design and manufacture of composite components. We are attempting to overcome these limits through the development of new materials and proper characterisation of material behavior.
