After the final round of this competition at the Prinses Juliana kazerne in The Hague, Protension was awarded with the first price of the "Defensie Innovatie Competitie 2011".

The theme of this year's competition was "Defense Light". Winning this competition comes with a research grant of €200.000. Protension Composites develops preform manufacturing processes for the composites industry. Automated manufacturing of preforms for composite products is an efficient and cost effective way of replacing manual production steps.

Protension preforms are 3D, dry fibre semi-products. Advanced fibre positioning technologies are used to replace manual lamination processes. Protension Composites is able to automate far beyond the traditional filament winding shapes and can therefore offer a solid alternative for a wide variety of product geometries. Many different fibre architectures can be custom made according to exact specifications. Constant product quality and real time process analysis relieve expensive quality control.

Protension Composites finds its origin at the well known disciplinary group Design and Production of Composite Structures of Prof. Beukers(Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands).
